Emergency air conditioning repair in Fresno, California, available 24 hours a day

Stay safe while you wait

A Fresno house without cooling can climb past 100°F indoors within a few hours. Infants, adults over 65, pregnant women, people with chronic conditions and anyone on certain medications are at higher risk. This part matters more than the repair.

Call 911 immediately if someone has

  • Confusion, slurred speech or unusual behavior
  • Fainted or cannot be woken
  • Very high body temperature with hot, red skin
  • Stopped sweating despite the heat, or is vomiting

These are signs of heat stroke. It is a medical emergency. Call 911 first — the air conditioner can wait.

While you wait for us

  • Move to the lowest floor and the coolest room in the house
  • Close blinds and curtains on the sun side, especially west-facing windows
  • Drink water steadily, before you feel thirsty
  • A cool shower or damp cloths on the neck and wrists work quickly
  • Avoid the oven and other heat sources, and skip alcohol
  • Check on elderly neighbors, and never leave anyone in a parked car

One thing people get wrong: once indoor air is above roughly 95°F, a fan blowing hot air over you stops cooling you effectively and can make heat stress worse. In that range, wetting the skin and getting somewhere genuinely cooler matters far more than moving air around. During extreme heat events Fresno County opens public cooling centers — dial 2-1-1 for current locations.

Four things worth checking first

Sixty seconds. If one of these is your problem, you have just saved yourself a service call — and we would rather tell you that than take the money.

1

The thermostat

Set to COOL, and set several degrees below the current room temperature. Check the batteries. It sounds obvious and it is genuinely one of the more common causes.

2

The breakers

Check the main panel and the outdoor disconnect box beside the condenser. A tripped breaker can be reset once. If it trips again, stop and call — that is a fault, not a nuisance.

3

The air filter

A completely blocked filter starves airflow and can freeze the coil. If yours is grey and matted, replace it. If there is ice on the copper lines, turn cooling off and set the fan to ON.

4

The drain and float switch

Many systems have a safety switch that shuts everything down when the condensate pan fills. A blocked drain is a common summer cause of a system that looks completely dead.

Still nothing? That is what we are here for. Call (559) 520-4240 and we will get someone to you.

What counts as an emergency

We will come out either way. But knowing which you are helps us prioritize honestly when the whole valley is calling at once.

Call us now

  • No cooling at all with infants, elderly or vulnerable people at home
  • Indoor temperature climbing past the mid-eighties and still rising
  • Burning smell, smoke, or a breaker that trips again after resetting
  • Water actively leaking from the air handler or ceiling
  • Loud grinding, screeching or banging from the outdoor unit

Can reasonably wait for a scheduled visit

  • Cooling still works but not as well as it used to
  • One room is warmer than the rest of the house
  • A new rattle or hum that is not getting worse
  • Bills creeping up with no obvious change in use
  • Routine maintenance you have been meaning to book

What happens when you call

No hold music, no ticket number, no waiting for a callback that may not come.

1

A person answers

Our own Fresno office, day or night. Tell them what the system is doing and who is in the house.

2

You get a real window

An honest arrival time, including when it is tight. We would rather tell you than have you waiting all evening.

3

We diagnose properly

Full measurements even at 10pm. Urgency is not a reason to guess and swap parts until something works.

4

You approve the price

Photos of the fault and a firm number before anything is touched. Most repairs are finished on the spot.

No surprises at 11pm

You will hear the price on the phone, not on the invoice

If there is any difference for after-hours, nights or weekends, we tell you when you book — before a technician is dispatched. Nothing appears on the bill that was not discussed first, and being desperate at midnight is not a reason to charge you differently for the repair itself.

Our flat diagnostic fee is confirmed when you call and waived when you approve the repair. More on the diagnostic fee or see published repair price ranges.

Fresno homeowners who called in a hurry

I realized something was wrong with my AC when I got home Tuesday afternoon and noticed it wasn't blowing cold air. I called them right away, and they were able to send a technician to my Fresno home that same evening. The repair only took about 45 minutes, and everything was back to normal once the work was done.

Quick answers

Are you really open at 2am?

Yes. California Heating & AC Repair is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. Calling (559) 520-4240 at any hour reaches a real person at our Fresno office.

How fast can someone get here?

Same-day is available in most cases across Fresno and Clovis, and often the same evening. During a peak heat wave the whole valley calls at once, so we give you an honest arrival window when you call rather than an optimistic one you would end up waiting past.

Do you charge more for nights and weekends?

Any after-hours difference is quoted when you book, before a technician is dispatched. You will never find a surcharge on the invoice that was not discussed on the phone first.

Can you fix it tonight or will I be waiting for parts?

Most emergency calls are resolved on the first visit because capacitors, contactors, common motors, thermostats and float switches are stocked on our trucks. Brand-specific control boards and major components have to be ordered, and we tell you a realistic timeline rather than a hopeful one.

My AC is frozen solid. What do I do right now?

Turn cooling off at the thermostat and set the fan to ON. That thaws the coil without running the compressor against ice, which is what causes expensive damage. Never chip at the ice. Freezing is almost always caused by restricted airflow or low refrigerant, so it needs diagnosing once thawed.

Will you try to sell me a new system while I am desperate?

No. We are a repair-first company, and a 108-degree afternoon is the worst possible moment to make a five-figure decision. We fix what can be fixed, and if replacement genuinely turns out to be the answer we will show you the evidence and let you think about it. How we approach that decision.
