Careers

We hire technicians whomeasure before they guess.

California Heating & AC Repair is a repair-first company in Fresno. If you have worked somewhere the answer was always a new system, this will feel different — and if that sounds like the job you have been looking for, we would like to hear from you.

The honest version

What the work actually looks like here

Every call starts with a full diagnostic. Superheat and subcooling, static pressure, temperature split, amp draw against the data plate, capacitance in microfarads. Not because it is on a checklist somewhere, but because we publish that process on our website and customers arrive knowing what to hold you to.

You photograph what you find and show the homeowner before anything is approved. When a system can be repaired, you repair it and say so. When it genuinely cannot, you explain why with evidence rather than a sales pitch about its age.

It is slower than guessing. It is also a lot easier to defend at four in the afternoon in July when somebody asks you why.

Nobody is watching you at the condenser. The measurements take longer than the guess. We hire people who take them anyway.

Whether this is a fit

Worth being straight about on both sides before anyone wastes an interview.

You will do well here if

  • You would rather find the actual fault than replace parts until it works
  • You can explain a diagnosis to a homeowner without jargon or condescension
  • You are comfortable documenting your work in photos every single job
  • You are willing to tell a customer their system is fine and leave
  • You show up when you said you would, in a clean truck
  • You want to still be doing this in ten years

You will not enjoy it if

  • You are used to leading with a replacement quote
  • Paperwork, permits and code verification feel like someone else's problem
  • You would rather not have your findings photographed and shared
  • Being asked to justify a recommendation feels like being doubted
  • You want the fastest call count rather than the right answer

Who we are usually looking for

We keep applications open year-round rather than only when we are desperate. Good technicians are hard to find in the Valley and we would rather meet you before we need you.

Service technicians

Diagnostic and repair work across residential split systems, packaged units, heat pumps and mini-splits. EPA certification required. This is the core of what we do.

Installers and helpers

Changeouts and new installations done to code, with load calculations, permits and independent verification as part of the job rather than an afterthought.

Office and dispatch

The person who answers our phone is often the first honest conversation a homeowner has had that week. It matters more than the title suggests.

Apply

Two minutes. It comes straight to our office, and a real person reads every one.

PDF or Word, up to about 5 MB. Optional, but it helps.

Your application goes directly to our Fresno office. We read every one and reply either way, usually within a few business days. Questions first? Call (559) 520-4240.

Before you apply

Do I need EPA certification?

For service technician roles handling refrigerant, yes — EPA Section 608 certification is a legal requirement, not a company preference. For helper and apprentice positions it is not required to start, and getting certified is a reasonable early goal.

Will you hire someone with no HVAC experience?

For helper and apprentice roles, sometimes. What matters more than a resume is whether you are mechanically curious, reliable and genuinely willing to learn the measurement side of the trade rather than only the swapping-parts side.

What happens after I apply?

Your application goes straight to our office in Fresno. We read every one and reply either way, usually within a few business days. If it looks like a fit we will call you for a short conversation before anything more formal.

Do you hire year-round or only in summer?

We keep applications open all year. Hiring only when the phones are on fire in July is how shops end up settling for whoever is available, and that is not a good outcome for the technician or the customer.

I am currently employed. Is my application confidential?

Yes. We will not contact a current employer without asking you first. Most good technicians are already working somewhere, and we understand what that means.

Rather talk than type?

Call the office and ask for whoever is handling hiring. (559) 520-4240
