Before you call us, read this
Two situations need someone other than an HVAC company first. If either applies to you right now, stop reading and act on it.
If you smell gas
- Get everyone out of the house immediately, including pets.
- Touch nothing electrical on your way out. No light switches, no garage door opener, no appliances. Do not use your phone inside.
- No flames. No lighters, no matches, no candles.
- Leave the door open behind you if you can do so without delay.
- From outside and well away, call 911 or your gas utility's emergency line. They come out at no charge for a suspected gas leak.
- Do not go back in until they tell you it is safe. Call us after that, not before.
If a CO alarm is sounding
- Get everyone outside into fresh air straight away. Do not stop to open windows or investigate.
- Account for everyone, including anyone asleep and any pets.
- Call 911 from outside. Carbon monoxide has no smell and you cannot judge exposure by how you feel.
- Do not re-enter for any reason until emergency services clear the building.
- Say if anyone feels unwell. Drowsiness or confusion needs medical attention rather than a technician.
- Call us once it is clear, and we will find what caused it.
Carbon monoxide symptoms are easy to mistake for flu — and the giveaway is that they improve when you leave the house and return when you come back. If more than one person in the household feels these at once, treat it as CO until proven otherwise. HeadacheDizzinessNauseaShortness of breathConfusionUnusual drowsiness
Five things worth checking first
All free, all safe, and any one of them might save you a call. None of these involve opening a gas appliance.
- 1Thermostat set to HEATNot AUTO on the wrong mode, and set several degrees above the current room reading. Then check the batteries — a dead battery is a dead furnace.
- 2The furnace door panelThere is a safety switch behind it that cuts power when the panel is off or not seated. If someone changed a filter recently, push the panel firmly closed.
- 3The breakerFind the one labeled furnace, heater or air handler. Push it fully OFF, then firmly ON. If it trips again, leave it off and call.
- 4Other gas appliancesIs your stove or water heater working? If nothing gas is working, the issue may be your gas supply rather than your furnace.
- 5The filterA severely clogged filter can overheat a furnace and trip its limit switch, which shuts it down as designed. If yours is gray and matted, swap it and try again.
Still nothing? That is what we are here for. Call (559) 520-4240 — or read why furnaces won't turn on.
What counts as an emergency
We will come out whenever you ask. But you deserve an honest view of what genuinely cannot wait until morning and what comfortably can.
Call tonight
- No heat with an infant, an elderly resident, or anyone with a health condition in the house
- No heat with an overnight low near or below freezing
- A burning or acrid smell when the heat runs that is not first-of-season dust
- A breaker that trips every time the furnace tries to start
- Any loud bang on ignition, or visible soot around the furnace
- After emergency services have cleared a gas or CO callout
Can wait for morning
- It heats, but one room stays colder than the rest
- A new rattle or hum, with the furnace otherwise working normally
- No heat on a mild night with healthy adults and enough blankets
- The dusty smell on the first run of the season, which clears within an hour
- It runs longer than it used to but still gets the house warm
- A tune-up you have been meaning to book
If you are unsure which column you are in, call and describe it. We will tell you honestly whether it needs tonight or tomorrow, and there is no charge for that conversation.
What happens when you call
Four steps, and you know the cost before anyone drives out.
1
Someone answers
A person, at any hour. Tell us who is in the house and how cold it is.
2
You hear the price
The diagnostic fee and any after-hours difference, on the phone, before we dispatch.
3
We diagnose it
Gas pressure, combustion, ignition sequence and safety circuits measured properly.
4
You approve, we fix
Photos and a firm price on each option. Most repairs finish the same visit.
No surprises
You will hear the price on the phone, not on the invoice
Emergency calls are where the trade has its worst reputation, and it is usually about money rather than workmanship. So we say the number out loud before we dispatch: the diagnostic fee, whether an after-hours rate applies, and what it covers. If you would rather wait until morning once you hear it, that is a completely reasonable decision and we will not argue with you.
The diagnostic fee is waived on approved repairs. Repair pricing is published on this site and does not change because it is dark outside.
Fresno homeowners who called in a hurry
★★★★★
I realized something was wrong with my AC when I got home Tuesday afternoon and noticed it wasn't blowing cold air. I called them right away, and they were able to send a technician to my Fresno home that same evening. The repair only took about 45 minutes, and everything was back to normal once the work was done.

I had a great experience with this AC service company! From the moment I called, they were professional, responsive, and knowledgeable. The technician arrived on time, diagnosed the issue quickly, and explained everything clearly before starting the work.

Quick answers
Are you really open 24 hours?
Yes, every day of the year. A person answers rather than a machine. During the first cold snap of the season the whole city calls at once, so there may be a wait for a technician even though someone picks up straight away — and we will tell you honestly what that wait looks like rather than guessing.
I smell gas. What do I do?
Get everyone out of the house immediately without touching any electrical switches or using your phone indoors, and with no flames of any kind. From outside and well away from the building, call 911 or your gas utility's emergency line. They respond at no charge for a suspected leak. Do not go back inside until they say it is safe, and call us after that rather than before.
My carbon monoxide alarm went off. Should I call you?
Not first. Get everyone outside into fresh air, account for anyone asleep and any pets, and call 911 from outside. Carbon monoxide has no smell and you cannot judge exposure by how you feel. Do not re-enter until emergency services clear the building. Once it is clear, call us and we will find what caused it.
How much does an emergency furnace call cost?
You will hear the diagnostic fee and any after-hours difference on the phone before we dispatch, so there is no surprise on the invoice. The fee is waived on approved repairs, and our published repair pricing does not change because it is dark outside. More on the diagnostic fee.
Should I use space heaters overnight while I wait?
Electric space heaters are reasonable temporarily if you keep them well clear of bedding, curtains and furniture, plug them directly into a wall outlet rather than an extension cord, and switch them off when you sleep. Never use a gas oven, a grill or any unvented fuel-burning appliance to heat a room — those produce carbon monoxide indoors and it is a genuine cause of deaths every winter.
Can you actually fix it tonight, or just look at it?
Most of the time we fix it on the visit. The parts that fail most often on Fresno furnaces — igniters, flame sensors, capacitors, pressure switches — are ones we carry. Where a part has to be ordered, we will tell you that on the spot, get you as warm as we safely can in the meantime, and give you a realistic time rather than an optimistic one.
Still cold? Call us.
Someone is awake. Tell us who is in the house and we will prioritize accordingly.
If you smell gas or a carbon monoxide alarm is sounding, leave the building first and call 911 or your gas utility from outside — not us.
