The diagnostic

What we actually measure

Plenty of AC calls end with "it's low on refrigerant" and a recharge. That is a symptom, not a diagnosis — refrigerant does not get used up, so if it is low, it leaked. Here is what a real diagnostic covers.

More on our diagnostic

  • Refrigerant charge verified by superheat and subcooling, not gauge pressure alone.
  • Temperature split across the evaporator coil, measured at the return and supply.
  • Static pressure across the air handler — the fastest way to find a duct or filter restriction.
  • Amp draw on the compressor, condenser fan and blower, checked against the data plate.
  • Capacitor microfarads read against rated value — a weak capacitor tests fine visually and still kills a compressor.
  • Contactor, wiring and connections inspected for pitting, heat damage and loose lugs.
  • Condensate drain and float switch tested — the most common cause of an AC that shuts itself off.
  • Coil and filter condition, plus duct connections at the plenum where Fresno attic heat does the most damage.
  • Photos of whatever we find, shown to you before you approve a single dollar of work.

Why AC systems fail here

Fresno is one of the hardest climates in California on an air conditioner. These are the failures we see week after week.

Run hours, not age

With 100+ days above 90°F, a Fresno system runs far longer each season than the national average. Components wear on hours, not birthdays.

Attic heat destroys ducts

Attic temperatures well past 150°F break down flex duct and wiring insulation. We find disconnected and collapsed runs constantly.

Valley dust and ag particulate

Central Valley air loads condenser coils fast. A dirty coil raises head pressure, kills efficiency, and eventually takes the compressor with it.

Packaged units and older stock

Rooftop and side-yard packaged units are everywhere in Valley tract housing, and plenty of shops won't touch them. We will.

I realized something was wrong with my AC when I got home Tuesday afternoon and noticed it wasn't blowing cold air. I called them right away, and they were able to send a technician to my Fresno home that same evening. The repair only took about 45 minutes, and everything was back to normal once the work was done.

AC repair questions

How fast can you get to me?

We are open 24 hours and most Fresno and Clovis repair calls are handled the same day. When you call, we will tell you the soonest real arrival window before you commit — we would rather give you an honest time than an optimistic one.

How much does AC repair cost in Fresno?

Most repairs land between roughly $150 and $1,600 depending on the failed component, with compressor and coil work running higher. The ranges above cover the repairs we do most often. You always get a firm price before work starts. See full pricing.

What is the diagnostic fee, and do I pay it twice?

There is one flat diagnostic fee, confirmed when you book, and it is waived when you approve the repair. You are paying for a real diagnosis with measurements — not a free look followed by a sales pitch. More on the diagnostic fee.

My AC is 15 years old. Should I just replace it?

Not automatically. Age alone is not a diagnosis. What matters is the repair cost against the system's condition, refrigerant type and remaining life. We will give you the numbers on both paths and let you decide. Read our repair-or-replace framework.

Do you repair all brands?

Yes — all major residential brands, split systems, packaged and rooftop units, heat pumps and ductless mini-splits. If you have a packaged unit that other companies have declined to work on, we can help.

My AC keeps needing refrigerant every year. Is that normal?

No. Refrigerant is not consumed — a sealed system should never need topping off. If yours does, there is a leak, and recharging it annually treats the symptom while the cost repeats every season. We find and repair the leak.

Do you charge extra for evenings or weekends?

Any after-hours difference is quoted to you when you book, before a technician is dispatched. You will never find a surcharge on the invoice that was not discussed first.

What if the part is not on the truck?

Our trucks carry the common failure parts — capacitors, contactors, motors and thermostats — so most repairs finish on the first visit. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you the timeline up front and, where possible, get you cooling in the meantime.
